Brought together by a love of alt-country, bluegrass, and all kinds of folk music, Uncle Mosie started playing music together around 2017. Performing both original and beloved cover tunes, Uncle Mosie has a great time playing and singing their hearts out. With influences ranging from John Prine, Gillian Welch and Merle Haggard, to Lucinda Williams, Mosie Lister, Tom Waits, and Sinead O’Connor – they meander through genres, creating a soulful, foot-stomping experience, layered in harmonies.
Uncle Mosie is Andrew Cook on fiddle and vocals, Mark Archer on dobro and vocals, Scott Ashcraft on acoustic guitar and vocals, Brian Turk on upright bass, Jared Groom on drums, and Dana Myers on lead vocals.
You can catch them somewhat regularly at Satchel’s LIghtnin Salvage, or other great Gainesville venues. Over the years, they’ve played several local and regional music festivals including Heartwood Music Festival, Florida Folk Festival, Sing out Loud Festival, and Gamble Rogers Folk Festival.
While Uncle Mosie formed around 2017, they go back a bit further. Most of the band started playing together in 2010 as Nook & Cranny. Life evolved, and they eventually settled into their current formation as Uncle Mosie. Big shout out to Noah Shitama who was part of the band for a while and contributed much love with his sweet vocal harmonies and keys.
